Thanksgiving Turkey

Martha Kaczmarskyj

Servings vary with size of  Turkey

In the 1980s, a neighbor in Lake Ridge, Virginia suggested this method of baking the turkey and I have used it successfully ever since. The beauty of this method is that there is not basting, no checking, no fuss. Stick the turkey in and forget about it until it is ready! And, it is always picture perfect.

Ingredients

bullet

1 turkey (1- 1.5 lbs/person)

bullet

1 brown grocery bag

bullet

4 small black snap on clips

bullet

oil or butter

Directions

  1. Wash turkey, pat dry, and baste with oil or butter inside and out. Season with salt and pepper inside and out. Tie legs and wings in place.
  2. Coat inside of grocery bag with oil
  3. Stick turkey in bag, close bag and fasten with clips
  4. Place bag with turkey on baking pan with rack
  5. Place a baking thermometer through the bag into the turkey leg
  6. Place in pre-heated oven and follow directions on turkey for length of time to bake.
  7. When ready, remove from oven, let sit on counter for about 10 minutes to allow juices to settle in meat.
  8. Cut open paper bag (make sure baking pan is deep enough to collect all the drippings. De-fat the drippings and use to make the sauce.
  9. Transfer turkey to cutting board or serving platter and serve.
